Legacy Airedales is Retiring!

Thank you for your faithful support over the years. Our family has immensely enjoyed providing great family pets for our customers. We are no longer breeding and are instead just enjoying the antics of our Airdale Mojo. We wish you many happy adventures with your family and Airedales!

2018 Update

MoJo has grown into a great family dog. She is 18 months old now and is engaged in a daily battle for who has control of the trash at our house! Other than that naughtiness, she is a great dog. We are looking forward to seeing great litters come from her. Earliest pups could be summer 2019 if her heats match up with our family schedule. In the meantime, please like our facebook page and contact us via email to be added to our puppy contact list. We'll let you know as soon as we are expecting!

WANTED: Great Homes for Great Pups!

Our time with the pups is coming to an end. We have two great pups who are looking for homes, one male and one female. If you have questions or are interested in reserving one of them for your family, please contact us. We would love to answer your questions about Airedales in general and these pups in particular.

The pups will be ready to go to their homes next Friday, March 24th. They will be eight weeks old and ready to start bonding with and learning from their families.

Our philosophy of puppy raising includes three components: good breeding, a rich environment and lots of love. Your puppy will have had all three in large doses.

  • Good Breeding:  We seek out advice from mentors who have years of experience breeding Airedales to choose our stud dogs. Our dam and sire both have OFA certified hips of "good" and many champions in their pedigrees. You can see more about them HERE. We believe that good genes produce more than just good-looking dogs who show well. We believe that these time-honored genes are also what gives the Airedale personality and intelligence. These ingredients are as important for creating great family companions as they are in the show ring.

  • Rich Environment:  We raise our puppies in our home with the family. They are exposed to a variety of noises, smells, people, and interactive toys. We have been regularly brushing them and trimming their toenails so they know how to sit still for you to work on them. We require them to sit before we pick them up so they learn that being polite gets more attention than jumping. They are also becoming familiar with the word "no" and having their mouths gently held shut for a moment to discourage biting. They are ready and eager to learn and will come to you with some beginning skill development. They are also used to a family schedule that includes sleeping quietly through the night, being home alone for times during the day (in their puppy pen) and playing when the family is home. This week we will begin having them sleep alone in crates to help the transition to their new homes go smoothly.

  • Love:  There are many hands at our house that give the pups attention. They seek human attention and use their puppy eyes to beg to be taught a new trick. They are used to being handled and relax into arms or a lap very quickly. These pups love people and are ready to bond with THEIR people!

We look forward to answering your questions and meeting our pups' new families!

Bittersweet

This is a bittersweet post to write.

Bitter because we lost our sweet Moxie to complications after the birth of her puppies. We have been grieving the loss of a very dear family pet. We miss the wagging tail when we come home, the way she rubbed through our legs in a good morning hug and her mid-dream sleep howls. Sadness is particularly hard when you don't have your faithful friend to console you - Moxie was always the shoulder to cry on and the constant presence through pain for all of us.

Moxie took a loooong nap on the couch the day before she went into labor.

Moxie had a friend in the whelping box with her when labor began.

So for those of you who took one of Moxie's previous pups home with you after the loss of your own dear pet, we understand how you felt and are doubly glad today that your home is once again full of "Airedale-ness."

There is sweetness still in our home in the form of three really great pups. They were born healthy and strong and were even able to nurse a few times before we lost Moxie. They seem to be thriving on puppy formula and are gaining weight and progressing through developmental milestones at the same rate that our previous litters have.

We have two girls and one boy. We have been planning all along to keep a female knowing that this would be Moxie's last litter. So we have just one male and one female looking for families.

Their eyes are open and they are making us laugh with their "drunken sailor" first attempts at walking and running. They are testing out their vocal cords and surprise themselves every now and then with a cute little growl or bark. It's sweet to find a little dark-eyed face looking up at us from their box when it's feeding time!

The pups were born January 27th and will be ready to go to their new homes the end of March. They will have been wormed and have had immunizations. Since there are just three we are already able to do some preliminary potty training with them and are hopeful that they will have a good start before they leave our home. We also have plans to invite a couple of Moxie's best doggie friends over every now and then to play with the pups and give them chances to socialize with big dogs.

The last few weeks have been a blur of sadness, round the clock puppy care, and smiles brought about by sweet puppy kisses. If you have contacted us via phone or email and haven't heard back from us yet, we apologize - messages may have fallen through the cracks. Please contact us again.

We are looking forward to placing these two puppies in great homes soon!
